Horror movies

Any of you out there in the blogosphere horror movie fans? I've never been much of one, myself. I think it's because the bulk of horror movies seem to be nothing but gore or cheap jump-outs. That's not artistic, or impressive. Anyone can startle somebody by being really quiet and then really loud. Also, anyone can make somebody uncomfortable by showing gore and torture.

I've seen one or two horror movies that didn't do either of those things, and I thought they were amazing. Consistently spooky... haunting. Scare the crap out of you without being cheap and easy. Unfortunately, these seem to be the vast minority of horror movies these days. What do you guys think?

  1. I stay away from most horror/scary movies since they're either boring or the plot can be figured out within 10 seconds of the beginning of the movie

  2. I love horror movies. But its not because I want to be scared. Sometimes its to laugh at how silly it is. The funniest movies are ones that try to take itself seriously when being ridiculous. Other times its because I want the girl Im seeing it with to cling onto my arm, even if it means shes going to have kungfu grip.

  5. Horror movies is sort of an out dated term. Most of them this days are just thrillers parading around with cheezy sound effects.

  12. I think The Ring and The Grudge were both pretty impressive - Japanese horror is always reliably intelligent and creative it seems

  13. Most horror movies make me laugh. They are just so silly. However, I do like suspense films, like Psycho.

  15. I totally agree. Traditional horror movies have become so cliche they're not even remotely scary for. I admit Paranormal Activity was somewhat good since it didn't have those single loud notes that warn you when something scary's about to happen, but even that movie didn't really scare me. Great post man!
